Sore big toe to keep Green out of game

Warriors forward Draymond Green will miss Thursday night’s home game against Milwaukee, the team announced Wednesday.

Green, who sustained an injury to his right big toe during the first half of Monday night’s 117-101 victory over Memphis, did not join his teammates for practice. Neither did Shaun Livingston, who also was ruled out of the Bucks game.

This will be the sixth consecutive game Livingston has missed because of lingering soreness in his right foot.

Head coach Steve Kerr said Green’s absence will create more playing time for Jordan Bell, though Kerr declined to confirm that Bell would replace Green in the starting lineup. Kerr also suggested Andre Iguodala and Alfonzo McKinnie could join Jonas Jerebko in getting time at power forward.

“We’ve got options,” Kerr said. “We’ll be fine.”

Kerr insisted the Warriors are not worried about Green’s injury long-term; as usual, they’re being “cautious” and taking the long view.

“I’m sure Draymond is disappointed about missing this one, but we have bigger goals ahead,” Kerr said. “The main thing is to be healthy over the course of the year. We have to be smart.” Curry prevails: Stephen Curry typically finishes practice by launching jump shots at the same basket, in the near corner of the Warriors’ practice facility. Curry, a creature of habit, takes passes from assistant coach Bruce Fraser and repeatedly lets fly.

As the doors swung open to the media Wednesday, though, Kevin Durant was taking shots on “Curry’s basket.” And Curry was in the far corner, trading three-pointers with Klay Thompson and Quinn Cook.

As it turned out, the Warriors’ guards engaged in a friendly, post-practice shooting competition. Curry outlasted Thompson to win, then celebrated with an animated, good-natured jaunt around the adjacent court.

“You’ve got to keep the season fun, have a little competition, get everyone out there having a good time shooting,” Curry said. “So that happens from time to time.”

Asked if reporters were safe in assuming he won, based on his on-court reaction, he replied with a smirk, “That is correct. I walked ’em off. It’s like birdieing the last five holes.”
