No. 7 Stanford scores most points since ’94

Alanna Smith had 19 points and nine rebounds, and No. 7 Stanford racked up its most points since 1994 with a 115-71 victory over Idaho on Sunday at Maples Pavilion.

The Cardinal (2-0) had their fifth-highest point total ever and most since tying a school record with 122 against Cal State Fullerton on Dec. 10, 1994.

Kiana Williams also scored 19 points and had nine assists as Stanford kept pace with the Vandals (1-1) from long-range by matching the school record with 16 three-pointers.

Lexie Hull added 17 points and six Stanford players reached double figures en route to the Cardinal’s first 100-point game in two years. Nadia Fingall added 16 points and both Anna Wilson and Maya Dodson had 10.

Gina Marxen scored 22 points to lead Idaho, picked by coaches to win the Big Sky Conference. Janie King added 18 points, including a 6-for-10 effort from three-point range.

Stanford was 16-for-40 from three-point range. Hull and Williams combined to go 9for-15.

The Cardinal also utilized their height advantage, outrebound­ing the Vandals 44-15. #24 Cal 75, Penn State 58: Kristine Anigwe scored 24 points and grabbed 22 rebounds for her second career 20-20 game for the visiting Bears (2-0).

Anigwe, who had 37 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Houston on Tuesday, was 9for-18 from the field with eight offensive rebounds in just 23 minutes. It was her 43rd career double-double.

Last November, Anigwe had 28 points and a career-high 25 rebounds at Brown, one rebound shy of tying Cal’s game record, to become the only Division I women’s basketball player in the past three years to have at least 25 points and at least 25 rebounds in a game.

Jaelyn Brown scored 11 of her 16 points in the second half and Asha Thomas had 11 for Cal. The Bears went on a 15-2 run to close the third quarter to take control.

Siyeh Frazier led the Nittany Lions (1-1) with 17 points. St. Mary’s 70, Washington State 64: The Gaels (2-0) led by as many as 14 points in the third quarter and staved off a run by the host Cougars (0-2) in the final minutes. Sophomore Emily Codding had career highs with 17 points and six rebounds for St. Mary’s. Portland State 80, San Jose State 51: A poor shooting first half was the undoing for the Spartans (0-3) on the road. Ashley Bolston scored a gamehigh 21 points for the Vikings (2-0).
