NHL Coyotes power by Capitals

Arizona’s Richard Panik and Alex Galchenyuk each had a goal and an assist, and the visiting Coyotes became the latest team to take advantage of Washington’s penaltykil­ling struggles in a 4-1 win over the Capitals on Sunday.

“Getting a couple of power-play goals helped,” Arizona head coach Rick Tocchet said. “I thought we skated pretty good. They came out in the second and I think we withstood that pressure by them.”

Galchenyuk and Vinnie Hinostroza each scored on the man advantage for the Coyotes, who snapped a threegame skid in the third game of a four-game trip. Washington has allowed six power-play goals in its past four games.

“We’ve taken too many penalties throughout the first part of this year for sure,” Washington head coach Todd Reirden said after his team went on the penalty kill five times against Arizona. “One of the areas we have to clean up, too, is the discipline and penalties, especially in the offensive zone.”

Darcy Kuemper made 38 saves for the Coyotes, who have killed off 20 of their past 21 penalties, including two Sunday.

Avalanche Rantanen, Tyson Barrie Carl 4, each Oilers Soderberg had 1: a Mikko goal and and an assist and Semyon Varlamov stopped 26 shots to help visiting Colorado snap a five-game losing streak. Edmonton has lost four in a row.

Jets 5, Devils 2: Mark Scheifele had two goals and an assist and Nikolaj Ehlers added a goal and an assist as Edmonton beat New Jersey, which completed a sevengame trip with a 1-6 record. Devils forward Nico Hischier left in the second period because of an upper-body injury.

Bruins Jaroslav 4, Halak Golden stopped Knights 37 1: shots and David Pastrnak scored his league-leading 16th goal as host Boston won for the third time in four games by handing Vegas its third loss in four games.

Panthers 5, Senators 1: Aleksander Barkov scored twice during host Florida’s five-goal second period and the Panthers won their fourth straight. Ottawa center Colin White left in the second period with an undisclose­d injury.

Wild 3, Blues 2: Mikael Granlund scored his 10th goal of the season in the third period to lift visiting Minnesota to its 10th win in its past 12 games.
