Lillard, Aminu lead Blazers over Celtics

-

Al-Farouq Aminu says he’s grateful his teammates trust him in the big moments.

Aminu hit two late threepointers and the Trail Blazers won their fourth straight game, holding off the Celtics 100-94 in Portland on Sunday night.

Damian Lillard had 19 points and 12 assists. Jusuf Nurkic added 18 points and 17 rebounds. The Blazers have won seven of their past eight games.

“It’s good that we’re continuing with it, that we trust each other in all situations, the beginning of the game and at the end of the game,” Aminu said.

Jayson Tatum matched his regular-season career high with 27 points and Kyrie Irving added 21 for the Celtics. They finished 1-4 on their trip. Lakers 107, Hawks 106: LeBron James scored 26 points and dunked for the winning basket in the final seconds, lifting Los Angeles at home.

Kyle Kuzma added 18 points for the Lakers’ fifth win in six games. Rockets 115, Pacers 103: James Harden scored a season-high 40 points and Chris Paul added 26 to help Houston to its first home win of the season. Clint Capela had 18 points and seven rebounds for the Rockets Bucks 121, Nuggets 114: Brook Lopez had a careerhigh eight three-pointers and 28 points to help Milwaukee snap an eight-game skid in Denver. Four Bucks starters had 20 or more points in Milwaukee’s first win at the Pepsi Center since 2010. Hornets 113, Pistons 103: Most stars of the 2005 NBA Finals have been out of the league for several years. Tony Parker, on the other hand, is still tormenting the Pistons.

He faced them for the first time with the Hornets, but the results weren’t different. The 36-year-old scored 24 points in 28 minutes off the bench.

“That’s what Tony does,” Detroit head coach Dwane Casey said. “I’m just surprised that he never loses any of his speed and quickness.”

Parker improved to 20-11 in the regular season against the Pistons, first playing them as a 19-year-old with San Antonio on Jan. 2, 2002. Parker’s Spurs also beat Detroit in seven games in the 2005 Finals. Magic 115, Knicks 89: Terrence Ross scored 22 points, Nikola Vucevic had 21 points and 14 rebounds, and visiting Orlando won its second straight. Anthony update: Rockets general manager Daryl Morey denied a report that Carmelo Anthony’s time with the team soon will come to an end. Anthony, out for the second straight game Sunday with an illness, is in his first season with Houston after one season in Oklahoma City.
