Santa Clara falls at home

Collin Welp scored 12 points, Eyassu Worku and Max Hazzard added 11 each, and UC Irvine used a second-half surge to beat host Santa Clara 61-49 on Thursday night.

The Anteaters (4-0) trailed by five early in the second half before taking control with a 19-3 run to lead 46-35 on Jonathan Galloway’s layup with 7:19 left. The Broncos (0-2) got no closer than eight from there.

Santa Clara had the largest lead of the first half at 19-14 and was up 26-24 at halftime.

Keshawn Justice and Tahj Eaddy had 11 points each, and Guglielmo Caruso added 10 points for the Broncos. Weber State 85, San Jose State 77: Jerrick Harding scored 31 points to lead the Wildcats (2-1) past the Spartans (1-2) in the first round of the Junkanoo Jam in Bimini, Bahamas. Christian Anigwe had 20 points and 13 rebounds for San Jose State, which is playing outside the U.S. for the first time in program history. #3 Gonzaga 94, Texas A&M 71: Zach Norvell scored 22 points to lead five Bulldogs in double figures as host Gonzaga (3-0) beat the Aggies (1-2). Iowa 77, #13 Oregon 69: At New York’s Madison Square Garden, Jordan Bohannon scored 16 points to lead the Hawkeyes (3-0) past the Ducks (2-1) in the 2K Classic. Iowa will play UConn in the championsh­ip game Friday. Ehab Amin scored 25 points to lead Oregon. UConn 83, #15 Syracuse 76: Jalen Adams and Alterique Gilbert scored 16 points each to lead the Huskies (3-0) past the Orange (2-1) in the 2K Classic. Jalen Carey scored 26 points for Syracuse. #16 Virginia Tech 73, Ball State 64: In Charleston, S.C., Nickeil AlexanderW­alker scored 21 points as the Hokies (2-0) opened the Charleston Classic with a victory over the Cardinals (1-2). Other games: Desmond Bane scored 23 points as No. 21 TCU (3-0) prevailed 77-69 over visiting Fresno State (1-1) . ... No. 4 Baylor rolls

Honesty Scott-Grayson scored 15 points to lead seven Baylor players in double figures as No. 4 Baylor beat visiting Southern 94-49 despite the absence of All-America center Kalani Brown.

Brown sat out after rolling her ankle this week, ending her streaks of 113 games and 64 starts.

The Bears (4-0) used a 20-3 first-quarter spurt to take control against the Jaguars (2-2).
