Frameline chief to resign in June

- By Pam Grady

Frameline Executive Director Frances Wallace will resign from the organization, effective after next June’s San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival.

“It’s a good time to leave, because the organization is strong and the staff is strong,” Wallace said.

The Australia native came to Frameline in 2001 when she was hired as a development associate, the first of several positions before being named executive director five years ago. Wallace also manages Frameline’s film distribution arm and filmmaker support through its Frameline Completion Fund.

Although the search for a replacement for Wallace will begin at the end of the month, Wallace said she expects the decision will take a while. Leaving at the end of the next festival seems like good timing.

“I’ll miss the team I’ve built in the last five years,” Wallace said. “I’m a real producer and builder, building both the festival and the outreach programs, too. Getting to make those decisions about the queer content that goes up onscreen, especially in the big slots and just seeing the kind of work that Frameline does, those really big experiential screenings with people in tears or crying and laughing. To see that in action and to live that has been really rewarding.”
