Flores, Gonzalez, Lynch on Hall list

-

First-year-eligible defensive backs Ed Reed and Champ Bailey, and tight end Tony Gonzalez — a Cal alum — are among 25 semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

In all, 13 defensive players — including safety John Lynch, now the 49ers’ general manager — nine on offense and three head coaches — Jimmy Johnson, the Raiders’ Tom Flores and Don Coryell — made the cut.

Making it to the semifinals for the first time, although previously eligible, are Flores and linebacker Zach Thomas.

Already finalists for the Hall are contributors Gil Brandt and Pat Bowlen, and senior committee nominee Johnny Robinson.

The 25 modern-day finalists from an original group of 103 will be reduced to 15 on Jan. 3. The selection meeting will be Feb. 2, the day before the Super Bowl, in Atlanta.

Inductions will take place Aug. 3 at the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Tannehill back: Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who has missed the past five games because of a shoulder injury, practiced Tuesday and was named starter for Sunday’s game against the Colts.

“He’s ready to go. He’s been waiting for this week for a while,” Miami head coach Adam Gase said of Tannehill. “Today was a good start for us with him practicing the whole practice.” Trubisky update: Chicago quarterback Mitchell Trubisky is day to day with a right shoulder injury as the team prepares for Thursday’s game in Detroit.

The injury is not considered serious, but it could keep him out of Thursday’s game. If Trubisky cannot play, Chase Daniel would be in position to make the third start of his nine-year NFL career.
