’Bama, Clemson players top All-America rosters
The four College Football Playoff semifinalists combined to place 10 players on the Associated Press All-America first team, including a high of four from No. 1 Alabama, the AP announced Monday.
Alabama had six players chosen to the three All-America teams, more than any other school. No. 2 Clemson has three first-teamers, No. 4 Oklahoma has two, including quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray, and No. 3 Notre Dame had one.
Alabama placed two players on offense and two on defense, with Outland Trophy winner Quinnen Williams highlighting the defense. Receiver Jerry Jeudy, offensive tackle Jonah Williams and safety Deionte Thompson also made the first team. Tua Tagovailoa was the second-team quarterback.
Clemson placed defensive linemen Christian Wilkins and Clelin Ferrell and offensive tackle Mitch Hyatt on the first team. Cornerback Julian Love represented Notre Dame on the first team.
Other players honored included Washington linebacker Ben BurrKirven, a Sacred Heart Prep-Atherton alum who is on the first team.
Burr-Kirven was also a first-team All-America selection by the Football Writers Association of America, which named Stanford cornerback Paulson Adebo to its second team.
Texas Tech wide receiver Antoine Wesley, who had 88 catches for 1,410 yards and nine touchdowns this year, announced that he will skip his final college season to enter the NFL draft.
North Dakota State’s Chris Klieman agreed to a six-year contract to succeed the retired Bill Snyder as the head coach at Kansas State.
Mike MacIntyre, fired last month from his position as Colorado’s head coach, was hired to be the defensive coordinator at Mississippi. MacIntyre was 30-44 in six seasons in Boulder after recording a 16-21 record in three seasons at San Jose State. Soccer: The Spanish League has given up on its plan to play a regularseason match in the United States next month because Barcelona backed down from its commitment.

Martial arts: Olympic tae kwon do champion Steven Lopez won arbitration in a sexualmisconduct case and had his name removed from the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s banned list. Lopez was permanently banned in September for sexual misconduct involving a minor. He has denied the allegations.
