Where do Raiders go from here?

-

The Oakland Raiders are planning to move to Las Vegas in 2020, but there’s still another season to go before that happens. Raiders officials have said they would not stay in Oakland next year if the city sued the team. On Tuesday the city filed suit, and on Wednesday the team withdrew from a tentative deal to stay in Oakland. Here are the options the Raiders have for a home stadium in 2019.

OAKLAND COLISEUM

Many observers say remaining at the East Oakland sports complex is the most likely conclusion for the Raiders. Head coach Jon Gruden said Wednesday he would like to stay at the Coliseum, too. But Wednesday afternoon, Scott McKibben, executive director of the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Authority, said he got a call from a Raiders executive who “formally and officially pulled their proposal off the table,” throwing a lease extension in Oakland into doubt.

LEVI’S STADIUM IN SANTA CLARA

The city manager and executive director of the Stadium Authority, Deanna Santana, has not been approached by either the 49ers or Raiders about adding a second team, officials said Wednesday. The lease agreement between the 49ers and authority allows for a second NFL team to play at the facility.

SAM BOYD STADIUM AT UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA LAS VEGAS

A landing spot close to the team’s future home theoretically would be beneficial, but there are questions surrounding whether the facility is up to NFL standards, how much it would cost to make improvements and how a lease agreement with the university would be worked out.

STANFORD, UC BERKELEY OR SAN JOSE STATE

There are major logistical challenges to the facilities, including parking, traffic and stadium capacity. UC Berkeley officials have not discussed the issue with the Raiders, Cal Athletics spokesman Herb Benenson said Wednesday. The campus also has an agreement with a neighborhood association prohibiting NFL games at Memorial Stadium.

SAN DIEGO OR SOMEWHERE ELSE

Raiders team leaders made preliminary overtures to San Diego officials, according to CBS Sports. A strong market outside the Bay Area and Las Vegas, however, could be challenging and would come at a time when the team needs to be solidifying and ramping up support for its new stadium in Las Vegas.
