BEST SPOTS

Samuel P. Taylor State Park: Walk along the top of the ravine and look down into Lagunitas Creek; one of the best spots is near the park entrance. This is often the starting point for all Creekwalk Tours. Parking $8. Info: 415-488-9897, www.parks.ca.gov.

Ink Wells and Shafter Bridge: Shafter Bridge is located about a half mile past the Lagunitas Store. Salmon often jump through the small pool-and-drop falls called the Inkwells and can be viewed from Shafter Bridge.

Leo T. Cronin Fish Viewing Area: A natural staging area at a fork in the river, where the fish decide which way to go. As you drive west from Fairfax, the parking area is located about a half-mile west of the Lagunitas Store, just beyond the Shafter Bridge on the left,

Devil’s Gulch Creek: Parking is located 1 mile P. west Taylor, of main signed park for Devil’s entrance Gulch for Samuel Horse Camp. Park on the shoulder of the south side of Sir Francis Drake, then walk across the road to walk-in access on north side of Sir Francis Drake. Creek will be on your right, Devil’s Gulch Horse Camp on your left.

Roy’s Pool near San Geronimo: A fish ladder here, where the coho salmon jump over a former dam site, was inspired by local legend Leo Cronin of Trout Unlimited.

Peters Dam outflow: Park at Shafter Bridge, then walk south on gated Lower Peters Creek Dam Road, with Lagunitas Creek on your right. It extends to Peters Dam outflow from Kent Lake.
