Martha J. Gaspich

Martha Jean Gaspich passed away peacefully on December 15, 2018, and was reunited with the love of her life, her deceased husband, Dr. Robert J. Gaspich, her parents, Edna and Fred Gordon, and her brothers, Tom, Fred Jr., and Bobby. Martha was born on November 2, 1926 in Monmouth, Illinois.

When she was 18 years old, Martha began her nursing career at Garfield Park Hospital in Chicago, where she met Robert J. Gaspich, a medical school student. Following residencie­s in Mare Island, San Francisco, Milwaukee, and Champaign, Martha and Robert returned to California in 1956 and establishe­d their longtime home in Los Altos Hills. In her later years, Martha lived in Los Altos, Carmel, and Cupertino.

Martha was well-known as a very sweet, caring, and special lady throughout her many roles in life – as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, nurse, friend, volunteer, member and Eucharisti­c Minister at St. Nicolas Church, golfer, dancer, music fan, party hostess, exceptiona­l cook and pie baker, world traveler, and all around wonderful woman who touched many lives with her warmth and kindness.

After returning to nursing school and graduating in 1968 from De Anza College, Martha served as a Registered Nurse for 25+ years at El Camino Hospital. Martha and Robert enjoyed hosting parties with their friends and family, sharing food, fun, wine, music, dancing, and laughter – and particular­ly the many dances with her loving husband, Robert.

Martha is survived by her eight children – Mary Pat, Eileen Jones (Ken), Tom (Christine Owens), Nancy Barry (Rick), James (Mary Jane Weber), Susan Ferrone (Kenny), Jane, and Kathleen (Mike Anderson), as well as her seven grand children and three great-grand children.

A rosary service will be on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Mortuary, 96 W. El Camino Real, Mountain View. A funeral mass will be on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Nicholas Church in Los Altos, with a reception immediatel­y after mass at the adjacent Parish Hall. Following the reception, interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
