Indians’ Kluber has arm broken in loss
Corey Kluber got hit hard again, and the last line drive really hurt.
The Cleveland righthander broke his right forearm when he was hit by a comebacker during a 4-2 loss in Miami on Wednesday night.
Kluber (2-3) was struck by Brian Anderson’s liner in the fifth inning. “It looked ugly,” Cleveland manager Terry Francona said.
Kluber’s arm was placed in a cast, and he’ll be re-evaluated in Cleveland on Thursday.
“It stinks, you know?” teammate Roberto Perez said. “He’s our ace. We’re going to miss him.”
The two-time American League Cy Young Award winner allowed eight hits and three runs in 42⁄3 innings. The Indians are already without starter Mike Clevinger, sidelined until at least June by a back injury.
Caleb Smith (3-0) struck out eight in seven innings to help Miami stop a four-game slide.
Anderson’s infield hit caromed off Kluber, and his arm dangled as he chased down the ball. He swatted it toward first base with his glove rather than throwing it.
“It happened so quick, I couldn’t tell where he got hit,” said Perez, the Indians’ catcher. “I saw him holding his arm. It was tough.”

Cardinals 5, Nationals 1: Miles Mikolas outpitched Washington ‘s Max Scherzer, Marcell Ozuna had three hits and visiting St. Louis won its fifth straight game.
Reds 1, Mets 0: Jose Iglesias homered off Edwin Diaz in the ninth inning — the second time in three nights that Diaz surrendered a tie-breaking homer to the Reds — to give Cincinnati the win in New York. The Mets’ Jacob deGrom found his Cy Young form, with seven shutout innings of three-hit ball.
Angels 6, Blue Jays 3: Mike Trout hit a bases-clearing double as host Los Angeles won its third straight game. Rookie Ty Buttrey, who closed after the demotion of Cody Allen from that role, shut down Toronto for two innings to get his first save of the season.
Twins 6, Astros 2: Martin Perez pitched eight scoreless innings in his longest start in two seasons, and Jonathan Schoop hit a towering two-run homer for host Minnesota.
Rockies 11, Brewers 4: Nolan Arenado homered twice and drove in four runs, and visiting Colorado stopped a threegame slide by pounding Milwaukee. The Brewers had to scramble after scheduled starter Chase Anderson ruptured a blister on his right middle finger, sending him to the injured list and handing the ball to Jacob Barnes for the start before the game.
D’backs 3, Yankees 2: Ketel Marte homered, Merrill Kelly won his first start against the Yankees and host Arizona swept a two-game series. New York dropped to 0-5 against teams with winning records.
Phillies 7, Tigers 3: Maikel Franco hit a bases-clearing double in the seventh, and Rhys Hoskins homered for host Philadelphia.
White Sox, Orioles split: Yonder Alonso hit a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning as Chicago took the nightcap of a doubleheader, 7-6. In the opener, Baltimore rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win 5-4 and snap a four-game losing streak.
Royals sweep Rays: Kelvin Gutierrez hit his first big-league homer and host Kansas City pounded AL Cy Young winner Blake Snell for the second time in a week in the nightcap of a doubleheader, 8-2. The Royals won the opener 3-2 behind Adalberto Mondesi’s two-run homer.
Briefly: Dodgers center fielder A.J. Pollock will need surgery because of an infection in his surgically repaired right elbow. ... Mets reliever Jeurys Familia (sore right shoulder) went on the 10-day injured list.
