Carter health: Former President Jimmy Carter returned to teaching Sunday school in Georgia after taking time off to undergo hip replacement surgery. Carter told attendees at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains that he and his wife, Rosalynn, have nursing care at home and are doing fine, and he thanked them for their prayers and good wishes. The 94-year-old broke his hip last month at his home when he fell while leaving to go turkey hunting. A devout Christian, Carter regularly teaches Sunday school in Plains.

Pratt announced the nuptials Sunday in an Instagram post accompanied by a photo of the couple walking hand in hand. He said they were married Saturday in a ceremony that was “intimate, moving and emotional.” Pratt is perhaps best known for his role in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and on the hit TV show “Parks and Recreation.” Schwarzenegger is the daughter of actor and former California Gov. Florida recount: Brandon Peters, the new voter protection director for Florida Democrats, told party activists that they should assume there will be a recount during next year’s presidential election. “We are going to be prepared,” Peters told members at the state party conference Saturday in Orlando. Peters said there will be teams of volunteers trained in how to monitor county canvassing boards for recount problems around the state, should one take place in the 2020 presidential election. Florida became famous for recounts after the 2000 presidential election, and last year there were recounts in three statewide races. The Florida Democratic Party is the second state Democratic Party in the nation to hire a voter protection director, behind the Georgia Democratic Party.

Bees attack: A U.S. Border Patrol agent in Texas is credited with saving a migrant woman and her son who were attacked and covered by thousands of bees. The agent was patrolling in Brownsville last week when bees entered his patrol vehicle. The agent was looking for the origin of the bees when he saw what he thought was a bundle of clothing covered with the insects. He then realized it was a woman curled into a ball. He told her to run into his vehicle and discovered she was covering her 8-year-old boy. The agent rushed the pair to a hospital, where they’re expected to recover. They were traveling from Guatemala.

Detroit slayings: A man police call a “person of interest” in the deaths of three women has been taken into custody. The Wayne County prosecutor’s office said the case remains under investigation and no charges have been filed. The bodies of the other two women were discovered in separate empty dwellings this year. Investigators believe the deaths are related.
