Walker, Butler, Horford among stars on move

While Kevin Durant’s prospective move from the Warriors to the Nets was the biggest news on the first official day of NBA free agency Sunday, he was hardly the only big name to grab attention.

Also headed to new teams are Kemba Walker, Jimmy Butler, Al Horford and Malcolm Brogdon.

Here are some of the other moves and deals Sunday:

A person with knowledge of the situation says that Walker has told the Celtics he will leave the Hornets to sign a fouryear, $141 million contract to join Boston.

The person also said that it’s likely that Walker will be part of a trade that would send Terry Rozier from Boston to Charlotte on a threeyear, $58 million deal.

Walker’s departure from the Hornets is a setback for Michael Jordan, who has a controlling interest of the team. In early June, Walker told The Athletic that returning to Charlotte was his “first priority.”

Jimmy Butler has agreed to a $142 million, fouryear contract and will be traded to the Heat by the 76ers, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations. The Heat will reportedly be sending Josh Richardson to Philadelphia and were in talks to trade Goran Dragic to the Mavericks as part of the move.

The 76ers have agreed to sign Al Horford to a fouryear contract with $97 million guaranteed, a person familiar with the situation says.

Malcolm Brogdon is going from the Bucks to the Pacers and will wind up signing a fouryear, $85 million contract, said a person with knowledge of the deal.

Milwaukee said it is keeping center Brook Lopez. The Bucks did not disclose terms of the agreement with Lopez. ESPN reported it was a fouryear, $52 million deal for Lopez.

The Bucks also confirmed that they are keeping Khris Middleton. A person with knowledge of the negotiations told the Associated Press that Middleton will sign a fiveyear deal worth nearly $179 million.

Damian Lillard will remain in Portland as the guard and the Trail Blazers have agreed on a fouryear Supermax extension that will be worth nearly $200 million, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations.

A person with knowledge of the negotiations said Harrison Barnes has told the Kings that he is agreeing to stay with them on a fouryear deal worth about $85 million.

The Knicks agreed to deals with free agent forwards Julius Randle and Taj Gibson.

The Sixers lost guard JJ Redick to the Pelicans. Two people familiar with the situation said the Pelicans and Redick have agreed on a twoyear contract worth about $26.5 million.

A person with knowledge of the situation says Jonas Valanciunas has agreed to a $45 million, threeyear deal to remain with the Grizzlies.

Bojan Bogdanovic is signing a fouryear deal with the Jazz that will be worth $73.1 million, according to a person familiar with the situation. Bogdanovic is coming off a year where he averaged a careerbest 18 points per game for the Pacers.

Point guard Ricky Rubio is going to the Suns on a threeyear deal worth $51 million, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Rubio was intrigued by the chance to play for new coach Monty Williams and alongside shooting guard Devin Booker, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity.

A person with knowledge of the deal says the Mavericks and forward Kristaps Porzingis have agreed on a $158 million, fiveyear maximum contract that will pair the 7foot3 Latvian with fellow European star Luka Doncic.

The deal for the richest contract in franchise history comes after the Mavericks sent two firstround picks and 2017 No. 9 overall selection Dennis Smith Jr. to the Knicks for Porzingis in a sevenplayer trade before the deadline last season.

A person with knowledge of the situation said the Magic are keeping both AllStar forward Nikola Vucevic and guard Terrence Ross on fouryear deals.

Vucevic will earn $100 million and Ross is guaranteed $54 million, according to the person who spoke on condition of anonymity to the Associated Press.

Former NBA MVP Derrick Rose will sign a twoyear, $15 million contract with the Pistons.

The Spurs are keeping Rudy Gay on a twoyear, $32 million deal, and added veteran forward DeMarre Carroll on a twoyear, $12 million deal.
