-

Ashleigh Buhai of South Africa shot a 7under 65 to take a onestroke lead in the first round of the Women’s British Open in Milton Keynes, England.

Buhai finished just ahead of Japan’s Hinako Shibuno and American Danielle Kang, who each had a bogey in rounds of 66.

Topranked Jin Young Ko, seeking her third major title of the year after winning last weekend’s Evian Championship in France, was well positioned after a 68.

“I’m not tired yet,” Ko said. “I will do my best for this week, and then I had just great playing today, so I’m just happy.” PGA Tour: Cal alum Byeong Hun An and Sungjae Im each shot 8under 62 to share the lead after one round at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C.

Stanford alum Patrick Rodgers, Mackenzie Hughes, Rory Sabbatini and Johnson Wagner were a stroke back behind the South Korean leaders in the final PGA Tour event before the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Wyndham winners Brandt Snedeker and Webb Simpson joined Jordan Spieth among the nine players at 64.

Both coleaders shot the best rounds of their PGA Tour careers. An, a 27yearold South Korean seeking his first career victory on tour, closed with birdies on four of his final six holes and a sand save on the par4 18th. Korn Ferry Tour: Mark Hubbard, Maverick McNealy and Joseph Bramlett planted themselves in early contention in the fogdelayed Ellie Mae Classic in Hayward.

Hubbard, a San Jose State alum, shot 6underpar 64 in Thursday’s opening round at TPC Stonebrae. McNealy, who grew up in Portola Valley and attended Stanford, posted 65. Bramlett, another Stanford alum who lives in San Jose, shot 66.

Matt Atkins, a 28yearold from South Carolina, seized the lead with a 62.

Fog forced a onehour delay in the morning and then caused the suspension of play at 6:50 p.m. Ian Gilligan, the 16yearold who has dealt with cancer and was profiled this week in The Chronicle, was 3over through 11 holes when the round was suspended.

Firstround play is set to resume at 7:30 a.m. Friday. Recordsetter: Jake BeberFrankel, the 17yearold son of Hollywood director David Frankel, followed his record 10under 60 with a 65 in the Boys Junior PGA Championship at Hartford, Conn., to break the 54hole mark. BeberFrankel, a Stanford commit, had an 18under 192 total to shatter the tournament record of 199 set by Akshay Bhatia in 2017.
