Lucroy out of job: Angels part ways with former A’s catcher.

-

Catcher Jonathan Lucroy, who returned from a concussion and broken nose Wednesday following a homeplate collision last month, was designated for assignment by the Angels on Friday.

Lucroy, a twotime AllStar, was bowled over at home plate by Houston’s Jake Marisnick on July 7. He was placed on the 10day injured list and missed 18 games. Lucroy was 2for4 against Detroit in his final game with the Angels.

Lucroy, 33, batted .242 with seven homers and 30 RBIs in 74 games. He signed a oneyear, $3.35 million deal with the Angels in December after hitting .241 with four homers and 51 RBIs for the A’s last season.

“When you’ve got to give bad news to people you like, it’s not a lot of fun,” manager Brad Ausmus told MLB.com.

Catcher Max Stassi, acquired from Houston on Wednesday, replaced Lucroy on Los Angeles’ roster. Salazar out again: Indians righthander Danny Salazar returned to the injured list with a strained right groin, one day after appearing in his first game in two years.

Salazar, troubled by injuries to his right arm the previous two seasons, pitched Thursday for the first time since the 2017 AL Division Series. He allowed two runs in four innings against Houston. Afterward, he said his groin bothered him during the game. Ryu sidelined: Dodgers lefthander HyunJin Ryu, who is 112 with a majorsleading 1.53 ERA, was placed on the IL because of a sore neck. The move was made retroactive to Thursday.

Ryu threw six scoreless innings at Colorado on Wednesday, allowing three hits and striking out one. He left after throwing 80 pitches.

Manager Dave Roberts told reporters that Ryu is expected to miss only one start. Medical report: Mariners infielder Ryon Healy, sidelined since May, will undergo seasonending hip surgery . ... Other players landing on the IL include Phillies lefthander Adam Morgan (flexor strain), Red Sox righthander Heath Hembree (elbow) and Indians lefthander Tyler Olson (shingles) . ...
