WNBA looks into GrinerAnig­we fight

The WNBA is investigat­ing a fight in the DallasPhoe­nix game on Saturday that resulted in the ejection of Brittney Griner, Cal alum Kristine Anigwe and four other players.

With 6:23 left in the final period, Griner and Anigwe, a forward for the Wings, got tangled in the lane and a scuffle ensued. The Mercury’s 6foot8 center had to be restrained by an official at midcourt.

After about a 10minute review, the officials ejected Griner, Diana Taurasi and Briann January from Phoenix. Anigwe, Kayla Thornton and Kaela Davis were ejected from Dallas.

In Sunday’s games, Emma Meesseman scored a seasonhigh 25 points, Elena Delle Donne had 23 points and 10 rebounds and the host Washington Mystics beat the Minnesota Lynx 10178 . ... Alysha Clark scored 21 points and the Seattle Storm beat New York 8469, spoiling the Liberty’s lone regularsea­son game at Barclays Center . ... Chelsea Gray scored seven of her 26 points in the final 1:25 and the Los Angeles Sparks rallied to beat the visiting Chicago Sky 8481 . ... Liz Cambage scored 10 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter to help the host Las Vegas Aces beat the Connecticu­t Sun 8981. Volleyball: The U.S. men’s team secured a bid to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, beating the Dutch host 2518, 2520, 1725, 2521 in Rotterdam to go unbeaten in the Tokyo qualificat­ion tournament. Basketball: Sacramento forward Marvin Bagley III told USA Basketball that he is withdrawin­g from considerat­ion for the roster that will be sent to China this month for the FIBA World Cup. The U.S. has 16 players for 12 roster spots.
