Talks between U.S. women, U.S. Soccer break down

Mediation talks between the World Cup champion women’s soccer team and U.S. Soccer ended without a resolution Wednesday, damaging hopes that the sides could avoid a showdown in federal court over a genderdiscrimination lawsuit filed by the players this year.

The sides had agreed to meet secretly for several days in New York this week. The mediation sessions were expected to be the most substantive discussions yet between the team and the federation about equal pay and other workplace issues.

The talks included members of the women’s team and senior officials from U.S. Soccer, as well as lawyers for both sides. Molly Levinson, who represents the players, said in a statement that the players look forward to a jury trial. U.S. Soccer did not comment.

Dream Team defeated East Bay 10795 in the second game to win the championship series 20 in the San Francisco ProAm summer league. Dream Team, which was led by 24 points from Juan Anderson of the Warriors’ G League team in Santa Cruz, won its fourth title in the league’s 41year history.
