Duncan Robinson

The 6-foot-7 Heat forward split his rookie season between Miami and its G League team in Sioux Falls, S.D., but he’s in line for major NBA minutes this year. “Duncan can shoot the hell out of the ball,” teammate Jimmy Butler said of a player who went undrafted out of Michigan last season. Robinson knows shooting isn’t enough, though. Coach Erik Spoelstra said, “He has put on 15 pounds, literally, of muscle. ... That’s going to help him defensively, it’s going to help him against bigger players, and it’s helping with his confidence.” Robinson averaged 21.4 points per game in Sioux Falls, but he’s ready to spend this season in one place. “Definitely getting more and more comfortable with Miami,” Robinson said. “It’s nice to be able to settle in and unpack your bags.”

Brigid Kosgei

The 25-year-old Kenyan runner won the Chicago Marathon in 2 hours, 14 minutes, 4 seconds to break the world record. Kosgei bested the mark of 2:15:25 set by Paula Radcliffe in London 16 years ago. Kosgei won in Chicago last year in 2:18:35. “I’m feeling good and I am happy because I was not expected to run like this,” Kosgei said. Her run came little more than 24 hours after fellow Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge became the first man to run 26.2 miles in less than two hours, clocking 1:59:41 in Vienna. Unlike Kipchoge’s performance, Kosgei’s mark was set in an official race on a record-eligible course. Kosgei set a fast early pace but slowed a bit after the halfway mark. She waved to the crowd as she approached the finish, nearly seven minutes ahead of the pack.
