$28 million Breeders’ Cup stakes Friday and Saturday at Santa Anita

Gates open at 9:30 a.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday as the first races from Santa Anita are 10:45 a.m. and 10:07 a.m., respective­ly. … Grecian Fire, who won the Grade 3 All American Stakes on the main track May 27 when he was trained by Jerry Hollendorf­er, moves to the turf for the Joseph T. Grace Stakes. Now trained by Keith Desormeaux, Grecian Fire finished third in the Grade 2 Del Mar Mile on grass two races back. Saturday’s 1⁄ -mile race — previously run at the Sonoma County Fair — also drew Mugaritz, who stretched his winning streak to four in the Bulldog Handicap on Oct. 13 at the Big Fresno Fair. Another prominent entrant is All American Stakes runner-up Builder, who also finished second in the Rolling Green Stakes on the Golden Gate Fields turf Sept. 2. Cafe Flavor, Tortosa, Camino Del Paraiso, Arch Prince, Respect the Hustle and Sixes complete the field. … Miss Megan, who freaked to break her maiden by 12¼ lengths Sept. 2 at Del Mar, runs in Friday’s eighth race. Her Beyer Speed Figure of 84 was 23 points higher than her high in three previous starts.

The first Breeders’ Cup race Friday is the Juvenile Turf Sprint at 1:12 p.m., and the first one Saturday is the Filly & Mare Sprint at 11:55 a.m. … San Francisco residents Paul and Karen Eggert are the owners and breeders of Ollie’s Candy, a 15-1 shot in the Distaff. The 4-year-old filly is named for the Eggerts’ youngest daughter, Olivia. Ollie’s Candy won her first two starts at Golden Gate Fields, then had two wins and three seconds in seven starts in Southern California. She earned her Breeders’ Cup Distaff berth by winning the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar. … Jackson Family Wine chairwoman Barbara Banke’s Stonestree­t Stables has 12-1 shot Cambria in the Juvenile Turf Sprint and 12-1 shot Dawn the Destroyer in the Filly & Mare Sprint.
