Becomes official:
Madison Bumgarner will be introduced in Arizona on Tuesday.
Madison Bumgarner’s first official day with a majorleague team other than the Giants is expected to be Tuesday.
That’s when the Arizona Diamondbacks will introduce Bumgarner as the newest member of their rotation, assuming he passed his physical Monday. Bumgarner, 30, agreed to a fiveyear, $85 million deal with the Giants’ NL West foe Sunday, with $15 million of the contract deferred.
It’s the secondlargest deal in Diamondbacks history, after Zack Greinke’s $206.5 million deal in 2015. Bumgarner also received a fiveteam notrade list.
The Giants will receive Arizona’s secondround (competitivebalance round) draft pick in June because Bumgarner declined a qualifying offer from his longtime club. The Giants, who also will get a secondround pick for losing reliever Will Smith this offseason, offered Bumgarner a fouryear, $70 million deal after he declined the qualifying offer.
Bumgarner is a fourtime AllStar and the 2014 NLCS and World Series MVP. He is one of the greatest postseason starters of all time, going 83 with a 2.11 ERA. He has a lifetime ERA of 3.13 but is coming off his worst season. He was 99 for a punchless Giants team and had a 3.90 ERA, the highest of his career but still good for 18th among NL qualifiers.
