OFFENSE

An impressive 477 total yards yielded just 15 points. Why? The Raiders had six possessions that ended inside the red zone and converted only one into a touchdown. Derek Carr threw for a season-high 391 yards but overthrew

Hunter Renfrow on a possible touchdown in the first quarter.

Renfrow had six catches for 102 yards. Darren Waller had six receptions for 107 yards but just 6 yards after the first quarter. Denver head coach Vic Fangio noted the Raiders needed to use Waller to block

Von Miller later in the game.

DEFENSE

Denver totaled only 238 yards — the second-lowest total allowed by the Raiders this season — and converted just 3 of 12 third downs. Those defensive numbers are often good enough for a win. But penalties hurt; the Raiders drew flags for personal fouls and pass interference. Maxx

Crosby was credited with 1.5 sacks to finish with 10 in his rookie season. The run defense held Denver to 70 yards on 27 carries.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Daniel Carlson missed a 39-yard field-goal try wide left on the Raiders’ first drive. He later made kicks of 23, 33 and 28 yards, but the early miss loomed large, given the score.

Carlson finished the season 19-for-26 (73%) on field-goal tries. Renfrow muffed a punt (the Raiders recovered) and was shaky catching another.

A.J. Cole pinned the Broncos inside their 20 on two of three punts. Denver started its average drive at the 31, Oakland at the 26.

COACHING

Some of Jon Gruden’s decisions were open to debate, like taking a downfield shot for Waller on a 3rd-and-2 despite having success on early screen passes, or kicking a field goal late in the fourth quarter down by 10 points. The decision to go for two at the end of the game, though, made sense — the Raiders were shorthanded on defense because of injury and were riding momentum of a late charge. Gruden and the other coaches have plenty of work to do this offseason.

OVERALL

Given the disparity in numbers, the Raiders probably should have won this game. Instead, they were left recounting mistakes and missed opportunities that resulted in their season, and their tenure in Oakland, ending in loss. Several players spoke with optimism about the future of the team in Las Vegas.

But Gruden’s promise two years ago to give Oakland the best possible sendoff ultimately resulted in records of 4-12 and 7-9.
