Golden Knights fall a goal short in Boston

David Krejci scored with 7:42 left to rally the Bruins past Vegas 32 in Boston on Tuesday.

Jake DeBrusk had a tying goal for Boston early in the third period, and Krejci also assisted on Jeremy Lauzon’s first goal of the season. Jaroslav Halak stopped 27 shots as Boston entered the AllStar break with a win following a 121 stretch.

Mark Stone scored 1:24 into the game for Vegas and Nicolas Hague added his first career goal. Nate Schmidt had two assists for the Golden Knights, who fell to 111 under former Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer.

Hurricanes 4, Jets 1: Justin Williams scored two goals in his second game back in the NHL, leading host Carolina.

Williams scored the winning goal in a shootout for a 21 win in his first game after signing a freeagent contract with the Hurricanes on Sunday. It was Williams’ first game since helping Carolina reach the Eastern

Conference finals last year. In his second game Tuesday, the 19year veteran scored a powerplay goal in the first period and added another as a power play ended in the third period.

Islanders 4, Rangers 2: Josh Bailey had a goal and two assists, former Sharks goalie Thomas Greiss stopped 40 shots, and the Islanders prevailed at Madison Square Garden.

Flyers 3, Penguins 0: Brian Elliott made 19 saves, Jakub Voracek and James van Riemsdyk scored, and host Philadelph­ia won. It was Elliott’s first shutout of the season and 39th of his career.

Panthers 4, Blackhawks 3: Florida got Joel Quennevill­e a win in his return to Chicago, using a hat trick by Frank Vatrano to pick up its sixth consecutiv­e victory. Quennevill­e, 61, coached the Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup championsh­ips in 10plus years before he was fired when the team got off to a lackluster start last season.
