Drug test irks Sherman

- — Ron Kroichick

Barely more than 12 hours after lashing out at NFL owners for the “hypocrisy” of proposing a longer regular season, Sherman found another reason to speak out Thursday morning.

Sherman, in a tweet posted about 7 a.m. Eastern time, said he was tapped for a performance enhancing drug (PED) test and a blood test for the second week in a row. He naturally wasn’t thrilled about this, sarcastically writing, “I gotta go play the lottery I must be the most lucky man in the world.”

Moments later, Sherman posted another tweet in which he wondered how many other players must have blood taken ahead of the Super Bowl. “Probably a very exclusive fraternity,” he wrote. If this all sounds familar, there’s good reason. Sherman also tweeted about getting drug tested after the 49ers dispatched Minnesota 2710 in a divisionalround playoff game Jan. 11 in Santa Clara. Sherman had a key, thirdquarter interception in that game.

That time, he tweeted, “Hahahaha ball out and get the double dip .... PED and HGH tests .... hahaha gotta love it.”

Sherman, of course, has a long history of finding motivation wherever he can, from his status in the draft (fifthround choice in 2011) to trading trash talk with 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree in the NFC Championship Game in January 2014, when Sherman played for Seattle.

Most recently, Sherman fired back when former Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis criticized his coverage abilities on Twitter, after the 49ers beat Green Bay for the NFC title.
