GiantsSandoval pact done

- — John Shea

The Giants’ nonroster invite list officially grew by three Friday when the team announced Pablo Sandoval, Yolmer Sanchez and Darin Ruf signed minorleague contracts.

The Giants list 24 nonroster players who have been invited to bigleague camp. Spring training opens Feb. 12 when pitchers and catchers stage their first workout.

Sandoval, a third baseman who’s coming off Tommy John surgery, is returning for a possible 11th season with the Giants. He hit .268 with 14 home runs in 108 games and underwent elbow surgery in September, so he’s not due back any time soon.

Sanchez won a Gold Glove with the White Sox but hit .252 with a .318 onbase percentage in 555 plate appearances. He’s a switchhitter who’ll compete with Mauricio Dubon and Donovan Solano for playing time at second base.

Ruf played the past three seasons in Korea and hit 86 home runs. The first baseman/ outfielder played five seasons in the majors, all with the Phillies and most recently in 2016, and has 35 career homers in 737 plate appearances.

Nick Vincent apparently is reuniting not only with his old team but his old manager.

The relief pitcher reportedly is signing a minorleague contract with the Giants, his team at the start of last season before he signed with the Phillies and played for Gabe Kapler — now the Giants’ manager.

MassLive.com first reported the GiantsVincent reunion. Vincent, 33, posted a 5.38 ERA in 18 games with the Giants and got released, then became much more successful with Philadelphia, sporting a 1.93 ERA in 14 games.

Vincent’s strikeout rate and homers rate improved with the change of scenery. His ERA in eight bigleague seasons is 3.32.

The Giants have several openings in the bullpen including at closer. Vincent wouldn’t be a candidate for that job with four saves in 384 appearances, but he’d be in the mix for other roles, especially after his strong finish.

Briefly: Threetime AllStar outfielder Curtis Granderson announced his retirement after 16 seasons. Granderson was an AllStar for the Tigers in 2009, and for the Yankees in 2011 and 2012. Last year he batted .183 in 138 games for the Marlins . ... Two former Giants, lefthander Derek Holland and catcher Andrew Susac, agreed to minorleague deals with the Pirates along with lefthander Robbie Erlin and outfielder Charlie Tilson. Pittsburgh also agreed to an $850,000, oneyear contract with utilityman JT Riddle . ... First baseman Matt Adams agreed to a minorleague deal with the Mets. He batted .226 with 20 homers and 56 RBIs last year for the Nationals.
