Fun options abound over 3day weekend

Presidents Day, also known as Washington’s Birthday, is a federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday every February celebratin­g our first president, George Washington, and all the presidents who came after him.

The Bay Area has all kinds of fun activities and events for the public to enjoy during this threeday weekend, including food tours, walking tours and more.

In addition, San Francisco’s City Hall typically celebrates the holiday by illuminati­ng the building with its LED lighting fixtures in red, white and blue. The schedule for the lighting is subject to change, but make sure to take a look if you’re in the area. San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competitio­n Public Tasting Join thousands of fellow wine lovers to sample awardwinni­ng wine for one day only at Fort Mason Festival Pavilion. With more than 7,000 entries, the public tasting is the largest competitio­n of North American wines in the world.

Chinatown Food Tour: Savor China’s Culinary Treats Learn the history of San Francisco’s Chinatown neighborho­od through its food offerings. The tour includes five tastings, with samples of Cantonese pork buns, President Barack Obama’s favorite San Francisco dim sum, Chef Han’s authentic Szechuan cuisine, savory Peking duck and egg tarts.

Presidents Day Weekend Concert at McGrail Vineyards Get out of the city and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with wine, music and gorgeous views in Livermore.

Singer Michelle Lambert is scheduled to perform from 1 to 1:30 p.m., followed by Lavender Fields from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Along with regular tasting and purchase options for McGrail wines, the vineyard also plans to have Soleil WoodFired Pizza and Smokin’ Hot Meats ‘n Treats as food options for guests. 14:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16.

Presidents Day Organ Crawl Listen to some music and visit new places with the San Francisco Chapter of the American Guild of Organists’ organ crawl event. Starting at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption, participan­ts will visit five churches for organ demonstrat­ions.

Lunch will be available for $15 with a reservatio­n at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
