BroadwaySF is postponing “The Band’s Visit,” “Spamilton,” “Mean Girls,” “My Fair Lady” and the concert performance of “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” because of continued concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. The delay will keep the Golden Gate Theatre and the Orpheum Theatre dark at least through August.

The news follows an April 14 statement by Gov. Gavin Newsom that implied large gatherings were still months away. “The prospect of mass gatherings is negligible at best until we get to herd immunity and we get to a vaccine,” Newsom said at a news conference. “So largescale events that bring in hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of strangers … (are) not in the cards based upon our current guidelines and current expectations.”

BroadwaySF is working with each tour’s producer to reschedule for the future. The company is asking ticket holders to the postponed shows to hold on to their tickets for now so they can rebook once new dates are set.

The company’s offices are closed, so patrons seeking more information should not expect an immediate response, according to a BroadwaySF spokesman.

In the meantime, BroadwaySF is offering content from Broadway artists on Instagram Live. Featured artists have included San Francisco native Lena Hall (“Hedwig and the Angry Inch”) in concert and dancer Weston Krukow (“An American in Paris”) giving a dance lesson.

In shuttering for the summer, BroadwaySF joins California Shakespeare Theater and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which announced cancellations in March.

The next BroadwaySF production still on the books is “Oklahoma!” in October and November.

BroadwaySF has extended the subscription renewal deadline for its 202021 season to June 21.
