❶ Rough landing: A small plane crashed and landed on its roof in the middle of a busy street in Fresno, but no one on the ground was injured and the pilot walked away with bumps and scratches, authorities said. Philip Barnett told the Fresno Bee the engine of his Cessna 172 Skyhawk failed after he took off Saturday from the Sierra Sky Park Airport shortly before 10 a.m. He said he turned around and landed near the end of the runway, but the plane had so much momentum it went through a metal fence and pedestrian walkway. It flipped and landed on its roof in the median of a street. “I was lucky,” Barnett said.

❷ Officer arrested: A Los Angeles Police Department officer was arrested on suspicion of shooting and wounding a fellow LAPD officer while they were offduty at an offroad recreation area, authorities said. Deputies responded to reports of a shooting Sunday in the desert just south of Barstow, the San Bernardino County Sheriff ’s Department said. They found a man with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was airlifted to a hospital in stable condition and is expected to survive. Deputies arrested Ishmail Tamayo, 44, on suspicion of attempted murder. It’s unclear why or how the victim was shot, authorities said. Tamayo’s lawyer, Gregory Yacoubian, said he’s confident his client will be cleared of wrongdoing.

❸ Frozen body: A man found a decomposed body in his dead mother’s freezer as he was clearing out her apartment in New York City, police said. The man found the body last week in a freezer that had been sealed with duct tape. Investigators said the body appeared to have been stored for over 10 years, said building superintendent Asmir Basim. The deceased tenant never gave permission for work to be done in the apartment, Basim said, adding that she “seemed like a lovely lady, always very pleasant.”

❹ Officer killed: A shootout in Overland Park, Kan., left both a police officer and a hitandrun suspect dead, authorities said. Officer Mike Mosher died at a hospital Sunday night, Police Chief Frank Donchez said. Mosher was offduty but in uniform when he saw an apparent hitandrun and pursued the suspect, which led to a shootout, police spokesman John Lacy said. The suspect, who was not identified, died at the scene, Donchez said. Police did not elaborate on how he died. Mosher had been with the Overland Park department for nearly 15 years, and was named officer of the year in 2019. He is survived by a wife and daughter. The police department had not lost an officer in the line of duty since 1985.

❺ Child hostage: An 11yearold boy who was shot after being taken hostage by his father in Arkansas has died, authorities said. Little Rock police said Jordan Roberts was found in a bedroom suffering from gunshot wounds after his father, Brent Martin, 32, was killed by police. Officers went to the home Friday night after the child’s mother reported a man had taken her son hostage. A SWAT team entered the home when they heard gunshots. Police Chief Keith Humphrey said Martin shot the boy, then was killed when he confronted the officers. The child died later at a hospital.
