“He was wrong”: Bills QB apologizes for racist remark.

-

Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback Jake Fromm apologized for using the phrase “elite white people” in a text conversation from more than a year ago, and posted on social media early Thursday.

Fromm’s text conversation took place in March 2019, and a twitter posting related this purported remark by Fromm: “But no guns are good. They need to let me get suppressors. Just make them very expensive so only elite white people can get them haha.”

The former University of Georgia starter posted his apology on Twitter, writing: “I’m truly sorry for my words and actions and humbly ask for forgiveness.”

Fromm, selected in the fifth round of the draft in April, said he also apologized to his teammates and coaches in a team meeting.

“He was wrong and he admitted it to us. We don’t condone what he said,” the Bills said in a statement. “We will continue to work with Jake on the responsibilities of being a Buffalo Bill on and off the field.”

Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, who is black, addressed Fromm’s comments and apology during his already scheduled Zoom call with reporters. “Jake seemed very sincere in his apology,” Frazier said.

The revelation of the text exchange comes a little over a week after George Floyd, an unarmed black man, was killed by police while being arrested in Minnesota. The death sparked nationwide protests.

Player dismissed: Oregon State tight end Rocco Carley, a redshirt freshman, was dismissed from the football team after a recording surfaced of him making racist and bigoted comments three years ago.

Carley issued an apology on social media Thursday after the recording went public Wednesday.

“I am truthfully sorry to everyone I have hurt and offended,” Carley wrote. “I hope that you know me well enough to know I am in no way shape or form a racist. Again I apologize, and I could not be more ashamed of my actions.”
