2 gunned down and 3 wounded at Vallejo party
Two women were killed Tuesday night in Vallejo when a group of shooters got out of a vehicle and opened fire at a toddler’s birthday party, wounding two other adults and a 10yearold child, police said.
Officers responded at 9:49 p.m. to reports of a shooting on the 100 block of Cynthia Avenue in North Vallejo, where they found five people suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Vallejo police. Two of the victims — identified as a 63yearold woman and a 37yearold woman — were pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The killings marked the city’s 10th and 11th homicides this year. Police said the victims appeared to be targeted, but no information on suspects was released.
“It’s deeply disturbing that they would target small children and women like this, and the men that were there,” Police Chief Shawny
Williams told reporters.
A man, woman and the child suffered nonlifethreatening injuries and were expected to survive, police said. The victims included three Vallejo residents while two, including the child, are residents of Benicia.
Four ambulances were sent to the scene and transported the victims to local hospitals and regional trauma centers, said Jimmy Pierson, president and chief operating officer of Medic Ambulance Service.
The conditions of the patients who were transported were not immediately available. Names of the two people killed were withheld pending notification of next of kin.
“Our deepest condolences and prayers are with their families,” police officials said in a statement.
