Chronicle writers win food awards
Two San Francisco Chronicle critics and a columnist are among the winners of the 2020 Association of Food Journalists awards.
The awards, which were announced June 25, recognize excellence in food journalism. Among the winners was Leena TrivediGrenier, who has written A Million Plates, a column focused on immigrant food in the Bay Area, for The Chronicle since 2017.
TrivediGrenier took home first place in the best food essay category for “A world tour of pickles in the Bay Area and how to make them.” She also won second place in the best food column category.
Chronicle staff members Soleil Ho, The Chronicle’s restaurant critic, and wine critic Esther Mobley also won awards.
Ho won third place in the category of best restaurant criticism. She also was nominated for a prestigious James Beard Foundation award for her restaurant criticism earlier this year.
Mobley won second place in the category of best writing on wine, beer or spirits with her recent articles “The Unanchoring of Anchor Brewing” and “The End of Cabernet in Napa Valley?”
Mobley was named feature wine writer of the year in the prestigious Louis Roederer International Wine Writers Awards competition last year.
