_1 Manhunt: Law officers searched Sunday for a man suspected of shooting three people, killing two and critically wounding the third, in the rural community of Shingletown in Shasta County. Daun Eric Sanders, 35, is considered armed and dangerous, the Sheriff ’s Office said in urging members of the public not to confront him. Deputies who responded to a report of a shooting Saturday found three victims inside a residence. Two were pronounced dead and the third was hospitalized in critical condition. Deputies searched his home nearby but didn’t locate him. The victims were not identified, and no motive was disclosed.
_2 Park attack: One man was killed in a shooting Saturday evening in a park where protesters against police violence had gathered in Louisville, Ky., authorities said. A suspect, who was not identified, was taken into custody. Videos posted online showed a man standing on the edge of the park firing more than a dozen shots that sent protesters scrambling for shelter. Tyler Charles Gerth, 27, died at the scene. The park has for weeks been the epicenter for protests in the city after the police killings of Breonna Taylor in Louisville and George Floyd in Minneapolis. The suspect had been a participant in the protests, police said.
_3 Police protest: Hundreds of protesters camped outside City Hall are demanding that lawmakers slash the New York City police budget. The encampment in Manhattan began forming last week after weeks of street protests sparked by the death of George Floyd and other Black Americans killed by law enforcement. The protesters are part of a national “defund the police” movement seeking more spending on other needs like housing and education. Demonstrators are demanding that the City Council cut at least $1 billion from the police department’s current $6 billion budget.
_4 Confederate symbol: Mississippi will surrender the Confederate battle emblem from its state flag, more than a century after white supremacist legislators embedded it there. Mississippi’s House and Senate voted in succession Sunday to retire the flag, with broad bipartisan support. Republican Gov. Tate Reeves has said he will sign the bill, and the state flag would lose its official status as soon as he signs the measure. The state has faced increasing pressure to change its flag in the past month amid international protests against racial injustice in the United States. A commission will design a new flag that cannot include the Confederate symbol and that must have the words “In God We Trust.” Voters will be asked to approve the new design.
_5 Workplace shooting: A third person has died in a shooting at a warehouse in Springfield, Ill., where the suspect had fatally shot two coworkers before apparently killing himself, authorities said. Police believe Michael Collins opened fire on three of his coworkers Friday. Two died Friday — Christopher Aumiller, 25, and Bill Gibbons, 61, according to the coroner. The third victim was identified only as a 54yearold woman who died Saturday at a hospital. After the attack, Collins was found dead in his car apparently of a selfinflicted gunshot wound, police said.
