What a waste

-

So, in an era of economic crisis and widespread poverty, the High Speed

Rail Authority wishes to secure $80 billion to fund service between San Jose and San Francisco (Page One, July 10).

“Residents of the area can expect to hear the rumble of trains and the wail of more horns,” and properties, especially in San Jose, Belmont and San Mateo are “subject to acquisition.”

All this, and the new line is expected only to be “at least 15 minutes faster than Cal Train’s Baby Bullet service.”

Go figure. Nancy Barnby, Menlo Park
