Finau, Palmer share lead

Tony Finau (3underpar 69) and Ryan Palmer (68) share the 36hole lead at the PGA Tour’s Memorial in Dublin, Ohio, at 9under 135.

They were a shot in front of Jon Rahm (67), who has another chance to reach No. 1 in the world this week for the first time in his career. U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland (70) was two behind.

Tiger Woods shot 76 and made the cut on the number at 3over 147, matching Cal alum Collin Morikawa. Among those missing the cut was Bryson DeChambeau, who hit his tee shot into a hazard on the 15th, taking a penalty drop, hitting the next two outofbound­s and making 10.

Baseball: Freeagent outfielder Yaisel Puig and Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco and both tested positive for the coronaviru­s while New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu, Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada and Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman all returned to the field after missing time with the virus.

Puig’s positive test meant his deal with the Braves, which was based on him passing a physical, fell through.

Los Angeles Angels righthande­r Justin Anderson will have Tommy John surgery. NBA: Los Angeles Clippers forward Montrezl Harrell has left the team’s Florida training site because of a family emergency, ESPN reported. The team is scheduled to resume its season near Orlando on July 30. To play upon his return, Harrell would first need to quarantine for at least 10 days and have two negative coronaviru­s tests . ... The league told teams that none of the seeding games will be taken into considerat­ion for any postseason award, and that voting for those honors — such as MVP, AllNBA, rookie of the year and defensive player of the year — will be over by July 30. WNBA: Washington Mystics forward Tina Charles was medically excused for the season by an independen­t panel of doctors because she has a condition called extrinsic asthma that impacts her immune system. Motor sports: In Newton, Iowa, Simon Pagenaud came from the last starting spot before holding off Scott Dixon in the final laps to win the opener of IndyCar’s doublehead­er at Iowa Speedway, a 250mile race around the 0.875mile trioval. Pagenaud was sent to the back after a fuel pressure issue forced him to scrap his qualifying attempt. IndyCar will run another 250mile race at the track Saturday. NFL: Receiver A.J. Green signed his oneyear, $17.9 million contract after the deadline passed for agreeing to a longterm deal with the Cincinnati Bengals . ... The Arizona Cardinals signed freeagent offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum to a oneyear deal.

Soccer: Major League Soccer delayed the first seasons of expansion teams in Charlotte, St. Louis; and Sacramento by one year each because of the coronaviru­s pandemic. Charlotte will start play in 2022, and St. Louis and Sacramento will take the field in 2023. In the MLS is Back Tournament near Orlando, Sporting Kansas City beat Colorado 32 and DC United and New England played to a 11 draw.

Morgan Weaver scored in the 68th minute to send the Portland Thorns into the semifinals of the National Women’s Soccer League’s Challenge Cup in Herriman, Utah, with 10 victory over the North Carolina Courage. In a second quarterfin­al in Herriman, Houston defeated Utah 32 on penalty kicks after regulation ended in a 00 tie.
