_1 Baby boomers: Millennial­s and their younger generation­s now make up a majority of the U.S. population. A new analysis by the Brookings Institutio­n shows that 50.7% of U.S. residents were under age 40, as of July 2019. The analysis released by the U.S. Census Bureau shows that millennial, Generation Z and younger generation­s numbered 166 million people. The combined Generation X, baby boomer, and older cohorts represente­d 162 million residents. Baby boomers were born between 1946 and 1964; Generation Xers in the late 1960s and 1970s; Millennial­s between 1981 and 1996 and Generation Z after 1996.

_2 Confederat­e statue: A judge dismissed a legal challenge Monday that had been blocking Virginia officials from removing a towering statue of Confederat­e Gen. Robert E. Lee from the state’s capital city, but he immediatel­y imposed another injunction against dismantlin­g the figure. The new 90day injunction bars Gov. Ralph Northam’s administra­tion from “removing, altering, or dismantlin­g, in any way” the largerthan­life statue of Lee on a prominent Richmond avenue while claims in a lawsuit filed by local property owners are litigated. Now covered in graffiti, the Lee monument has become a focal point and gathering spot amid Richmond’s sustained antiracist protests

_3 Kaepernick attack: The U.S. Navy is investigat­ing an incident in which dogs attacked a “Colin Kaepernick standin” during a K9 demonstrat­ion during a 2019 fundraiser at the Navy Seals Museum in West Palm Beach, Fla. The Navy said in a statement posted on Twitter that officials became aware of the video on Sunday. Kaepernick is a former San Francisco 49ers quarterbac­k who began kneeling during the playing of “The Star Spangled Banner” before games to protest social injustice and police brutality.

_4 Missing servicemen: The U.S. Marines late Sunday released the names of eight service members who went missing during a training exercise aboard an amphibious assault vehicle off San Clemente Island last week. Only one of their bodies was found, despite an intense dayslong search involving helicopter­s and boats ranging from inflatable­s to a Navy destroyer. Found at the scene was Lance Cpl. Guillermo S. Perez, 20. The others are “presumed dead”: Pfc. Bryan J. Baltierra, 19; Lance Cpl. Marco A. Barranco, 21; Pfc. Evan A. Bath, 19; U.S. Navy Hospitalma­n Christophe­r Gnem; Pfc. Jack Ryan Ostrovsky, 21; Cpl. Wesley A. Rodd, 23; Lance Cpl. Chase D. Sweetwood, 19 and Cpl. Cesar A. Villanueva, 21.

_5 Border wall: A constructi­on company whose CEO has made direct appeals on Fox News to build President Trump’s border wall won another major contract Monday, this time for nearly $300 million. Fisher Industries was awarded a $289 million contract for 17 miles in Laredo, Texas. The North Dakotabase­d company had already received $1.7 billion in two contracts elsewhere on the border. U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer, a North Dakota Republican who received donations from company CEO Tommy Fisher, has said he championed Fisher Industries to Trump.
