_1 Chicago looting: Prosecutors in Chicago say 42 people have been charged with felonies in connection with the looting of stores earlier this week. Among the charges filed include one for attempted murder and 28 for burglary and looting, in addition to aggravated battery, theft and criminal damage to property. Hundreds of people descended on downtown Chicago early Monday following a police shooting on the city’s South Side that wounded a 20yearold man. Vandals smashed windows of dozens of businesses and made off with merchandise, cash machines and anything else they could carry, according to authorities.

_2 Portland protests: Oregon State Police are leaving Portland after a twoweek assignment to help protect a federal courthouse that’s been a target of protesters during months of conflict in Oregon’s largest city. Nights of unrest that increasingly targeted the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse previously prompted President Trump to send federal law officers to guard the building in July, which reinvigorated Black Lives Matter demonstrations and often ended in violent clashes. The U.S. agents started drawing down in late July.

_3 Officers indicted: Three Mississippi police officers have been charged with seconddegree murder in the death of a Black man last year. A Hinds County grand jury indicted the officers in the January 2019 death of George Robinson, 62, according to an Aug. 5 indictment. It accuses the officers — Desmond Barney, Lincoln Lampley and Anthony Fox — with “willfully, unlawfully and feloniously” causing Robinson’s death. All three worked for the Jackson Police Department. The indictment alleges the three bodyslammed Robinson on the pavement and repeatedly struck him. Francis Springer, one of the attorneys representing the officers, said that “evidence will show that the officers are not guilty.”

_4 Trump brother: President Trump’s younger brother, Robert Trump, has been hospitalized in New York City. The White House did not immediately release details about why Robert Trump, 72, had been hospitalized, but officials said he was seriously ill. “We’ve had a great relationship for a long time, from day one,” Trump said Friday before departing to visit him in Manhattan. Robert Trump had previously worked for his older brother as a top executive at the Trump Organization. Once a regular boldface name in Manhattan’s social pages, he has kept a lower profile in recent years. In a 2016 interview with the New York Post, he described himself as a big supporter of his brother’s run for the White House.

_5 Soldier burial: Flags flew at half staff Friday during a burial service for Vanessa Guillen, who was laid to rest nearly four months after she was killed by a fellow soldier at Fort Hood, a U.S. Army base in Texas. Mourners gathered at Cesar Chavez High School in Houston, where Guillen grew up dreaming of joining the military. Guillen’s story has renewed a push for changes in the way the military handles complaints of sexual abuse and harassment. Investigators said Guillen was bludgeoned to death on base by a fellow soldier, who later killed himself.
