Brown, Watkins spark UAB’s win

Spencer Brown rushed for three touchdowns in setting a UAB career record, fellow senior Austin Watkins Jr. had a careerhigh 183 yards receiving with a score, and the host Blazers defeated South Alabama 4210 on Thursday night.

Brown, the secondlead­ing active career FBS rusher behind Clemson’s Travis Etienne, finished with 105 yards on 20 carries with his third score giving him 36 rushing touchdowns, passing Pat Green (199194). Watkins made seven catches, including a 56yard reception and a 15yard fourthquar­ter score.

Golf: Tyler McCumber, Sepp Straka, Hudson Swafford and Scott Harrington each shot 7underpar 65 to share the lead after the firstround of the PGA Tour’s Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championsh­ip in the Dominican Republic.

They were one shot clear of Stanford alum Joseph Bramlett and Xinjun Zhang.
