Blackhawks parting with goalie Crawford

The Chicago Blackhawks will not resign goaltender Corey Crawford in free agency.

Crawford, a Montreal native, was selected by Chicago in the second round of the 2003 draft and made his debut with the Blackhawks in 2010. He helped the franchise to Stanley Cup titles in 2013 and 2015. 1 In other NHL news, the New Jersey Devils placed goaltender Cory Schneider on unconditio­nal waivers for the purpose of buying out the final two years of his contract. ... The Montreal Canadiens agreed to a sevenyear, $ 38.5 million contract extension with forward Josh Anderson. ... The Ottawa Senators acquired defenseman Erik Gudbranson from the Anaheim Ducks for a fifthround selection in the 2021 draft. ... Carolina Hurricanes forward Justin Williams is retiring after 19 seasons and three Stanley Cup championsh­ips. ... The Detroit Red Wings agreed to oneyear extensions with forwards Adam Erne and Taro Hirose.

College football: Stanford announced it will begin its preseason practices Friday at Woodside High in San Mateo County. Stanford still hopes to get approval from Santa Clara County to hold oncampus practices. The Cardinal’s first game is scheduled for Nov. 7 at Oregon. 1 As of Thursday night, Cal was still finalizing plans with East Bay health officials, but hoped to hold its first practice Friday in Memorial Stadium. The Bears are scheduled to open at home against Washington on Nov. 7.

College basketball: The WCC announced its 20202021 men’s schedule. For the third straight season, teams will play 16 conference games.

USF opens conference play at home against San Diego on Dec. 31. St. Mary’s and Santa Clara begin WCC play two days later, with the Gaels hosting Pepperdine and the Broncos hosting Loyola Marymount. Defending champion Gonzaga plays at St. Mary’s on Jan. 16, at Santa Clara on Feb. 11 and at USF on Feb. 13.
