Beckham’s season over; 49ers to see a lot of Hyde

An MRI exam on Odell Beckham Jr.’ s left knee Monday revealed he suffered a seasonending torn anterior cruciate ligament Sunday in the Browns’ victory over the Bengals.

Beckham will undergo surgery and be placed on injured reserve.

“Incredibly disappointed for him,” Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski said. “I know injuries are part of this game, but I just hate to see that. ... The energy he brings to practice, the energy he brings to games, no one else is going to be able to bring that type of juice.”

It’s the second major knee injury for a highprofile Cleveland player this season. Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb suffered a right medial collateral ligament injury Oct. 4. He will return this season, but not this week, Stefanski said.

Carson out: Seattle running back Chris Carson has a midfoot sprain and almost certainly will miss Sunday’s game against the 49ers. He was injured in Sunday’s loss at Arizona, with Carlos Hyde then taking the bulk of the duties. Hyde, 30, was signed in the spring as depth behind Carson, who has suffered seasonending injuries two of his first three years with the Seahawks. Hyde, who spent four seasons ( 201417) with the 49ers, rushed for a careerhigh 1,070 yards last year with Houston.,

Cancer care done: Washington head coach Ron Rivera underwent his final skincancer treatment and gets to rest with a bye week before hosting the Giants on Nov. 8. The former Cal linebacker was cheered by staff and others as he rang the bell and left the hospital.

McCaffrey’s return: Carolina head coach Matt Rhule said AllPro running back Christian McCaffrey could play Thursday against the Falcons. “I am hopeful we will have him,” Rhule said, adding the decision is largely up to trainers. The Stanford alum was on the practice field Monday in a red jersey signifying an injured player. He did not practice, working instead with the training staff. He has missed five games with a high ankle sprain.

Raiders’ rush: Head coach Jon Gruden hopes to spark a struggling pass rush after Tom Brady carved up his defense while barely being touched Sunday. Changes on the coaching staff or a trade for a differencemaker apparently are not under consideration. “There’s a lot of people talking about, ‘ Are we making changes? Are we going to bring in new coaches, new players?’ We are where we are,” Gruden said. “We’re going to stick together, bond together. We’re going to make some changes in the lineup possibly and in the scheme that we use. We’re hoping we change the results that we’re getting.” Gruden might use different rotations, move players from inside to outside and tinker with blitz and stunt packages.

Cardinals hurting: The Cardinals have a list of injuries heading into their bye week, including running back Kenyan Drake, linebackers Jordan Hicks and Isaiah Irving ( neck) and defensive linemen Jordan Phillips ( hamstring) and Zach Allen ( foot). The team was waiting on Drake’s MRI exam results with particular concern.

Yardage in Seattle: Bobby Wagner sounded fed up after the Seahawks’ first loss of the season. No team in league history has allowed more yards ( 2,875) through six games. No team has allowed as many through the air ( 2,212). “We have the ability to improve, we just have to make our minds up. That’s it. No more talking. No more saying we’re going to do it. We have to go show it,” Wagner said.
