Playing his fourth event since revealing he’s fighting bladder cancer, John Daly shot 8underpar 64 on Friday for a share of the firstround lead with Jim Furyk in the PGA Tour Champions’ TimberTech Champions in Boca Raton, Fla.

Daly had his lowest score in his fiveyear career on the 50andover tour. The twotime major champion won his lone Champions title in 2017 in Houston.

“Just tired all the time, just something the doc told me I’d be,” Daly said. “Trying to drink the right stuff, but it’s hard to take Diet Coke away from me. I was proud of myself, I only smoked six cigarettes today. Usually I smoke about a pack and a half.”

Daly eagled the par5 18th — hitting a 7iron to 12 feet — for a firstnine 31 on The Old Course at Broken Sound. He finished the round with a bogey on the par4 ninth.

“I just hit it really good,” Daly said. “The bad drives that I did hit, I could find it, hit it. I just putted really, really good. … The putter felt really, really good today and these greens are so good, that if you get on a little roll, it helps. You could see by the scores, a lot of low scores today.”

Furyk, 50, won this year in his first two starts on the senior tour. He birdied three of his last four holes Friday.

PGA Tour: Ryan Armour and Wyndham Clark survived steady winds in the Bermuda Championship in Southampton to share the lead going into the weekend.

Armour managed three early birdies and another on the par5 17th for a 1under 70. Clark played in the afternoon and reached 10under par before carding two late bogeys for 68.

They were at 8under 134, one shot ahead of Kramer Hickok ( 68).

Fred Funk, 64, shot 72 and is at 1under 141. Since 1970, he is only the fourth player age 64 or older to make a PGA Tour cut.

“I don’t know whether I compete,” Funk said, “but making the cut was big.”

European Tour: Jamie Donaldson and Marcus Armitage shared the lead in the Cyprus Open in Paphos when play was suspended in the second round because of darkness.

Donaldson was on No. 18 and 5under for his round, and Armitage was playing the 16th hole at 6under for the day, when play was halted. They were at 11under overall.

Among those who finished the second round, Richard McEvoy ( 66), Sami Valimaki ( 67) and David Drysdale ( 67) were at 10under 132.
