Louisville forced to postpone game

-

Louisville paused all football activities Wednesday and announced that its Saturday game at Virginia has been postponed at least a week because of a spike in coronavirus cases.

Nine Louisville players, mostly on defense, were held out of Saturday’s 4235 loss to Virginia Tech. Head coach Scott Satterfield said afterward that some of the absences were coronavirus-related.

“We are taking a precautionary measure to pause due to the number of studentathletes and staff that have been impacted by the virus,” athletic director Vince Tyra said in a statement. “With Virginia and us both having a bye week on November 14, we are fortunate to reschedule the game for that date. It also avails us a chance to gauge any further spread of the virus. Test results from both Friday and Sunday will dictate when we return to team activities.”

New deal: Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham signed a fouryear contract extension through the 2027 season.

Whittingham, the 2019 Pac12 Coach of the Year, will kick off his 16th season in charge of Utah on Saturday when the Utes host Arizona. Utah is looking to win a third straight Pac12 South title.

Whittingham is 13164, going 113 in bowl games.

Sentinel the players are defensive end Randy Charlton, defensive tackle Kenny Turnier, linebacker Eric Mitchell and Collier — who was charged with driving without a license and carrying a firearm without a license. ... To promote social justice, more than half of UCLA’s players will wear oneword messages rather than names on their jerseys when the team opens the season at Colorado on Saturday.
