Democrats have a good reason to celebrate

-

Regarding “Biden our next president, but celebration won’t last” ( Willie’s World, Nov. 8): Willie Brown comes down hard on the Democrats, postelection: He states that the party has “lost its way,” and “can no longer generate much excitement outside the Sunday morning talk shows.”

Brown, perhaps you went to bed too early last Wednesday and didn’t wake up for a few days. You may have missed the dancing in the streets all across America, or failed to hear the deep sigh of relief from those who voted in record numbers for the Joe BidenKamala Harris ticket.

Sure, it won’t be an easy ride for Democrats — never has been. But please don’t say the Democrats should “start listening” to the voters. That’s how they got elected in the first place.

Unfinished border wall

Are the sections of the completed parts of Trump’s border wall going to to be made into a national park or at least a national monument like the Berlin Wall?

Skeptical of Google

Regarding “Google ad costs irk small business” ( Business, Nov. 5): When Google was founded, its slogan was “Don’t Be Evil,” and to quote William Shakespeare, “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

I teach creative problem solving to show companies how to think outside of the “search” box, and Google is an example of being blocked by pure profit motives from doing the right creative thing.

When a new website is launched, Google pushes them to the bottom of the barrel until that website owner spends thousands of dollars on SEO to try make their site attractive to the carefully concealed rules of the Google search algorithm.

If Google did the right thing, they would place a new website at the top of that website’s category for 15 minutes ( a la Andy Warhol), and let the public decide ( based on clicks) if the new site is worthy to be at the top instead of the

Google “robot” deciding.

The way it works now is that the buried website owners have no choice but to buy Google ads to get their message seen. This is something for the Justice Department to consider as they look into the motives of Google and its executives.

Host to the Bidens?

Well, it looks as if Joe Biden will be inaugurated as president in January. I hope that he might immediately begin building his administration, the Cabinet and other senior staff without worrying about or giving any energy to President Trump and his delusional ramblings.

I think most Americans see Trump as the irrelevancy he is. Maybe the only contact will be on Inauguration Day, where the outgoing First Family will greet the incoming Bidens at the White House.

( Of course, this assumes that President Trump isn’t under indictment.) I am sure Melania Trump, who has always seemed to be a gracious sort, will be a most genial host to the Bidens for their few minutes together. It might be interesting to be in the car with both presidents on the drive to the inauguration! I can hear the casual jocularity and gentle teasing between the two!

Republican resistance

Now that the presidential race has been decided, is it time for Republicans to display their “Resist” and “Impeach” banners and bumper stickers as the Democrats did four years ago? Just curious!

Farewell, Alex Trebek

Almost every night for more than three decades, Alex Trebek entertained and educated millions around the world, instilling in so many of us a love of trivia. My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.
