Topranked Stanford women lose first game of the year to unranked Colorado in overtime.
BOULDER, Colo. — Frida Formann hit a goahead 3pointer with 1:36 left in overtime and Colorado, which had never beaten Stanford in Pac12 play, stunned the No. 1 Cardinal 7772 on Sunday.
Peanut Tuitele blocked Lexi Hull’s 3point attempt with a second left to help secure the Buffaloes’ first win over a topranked team in program history. Colorado also ended a 16game losing streak against the Cardinal, as it had not beaten Stanford since 2002 — when the Buffaloes still were members of the Big 12.
“You can take all the points off the board, the rebounds, the steals — this game was won off our will,” Colorado guard Jaylyn Sherrod said. “We just didn’t want to lose. We knew what it felt like to lose in a close game to Stanford. We were just not

losing today. That was our mentality. That’s what won us the game — our mentality, our will and a girl named Mya Hollingshed.”
Hollingshed had a careerhigh 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Buffaloes (66, 45 Pac12).
“We did not defend Hollingshed worth a darn,” Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer said. “She had her way with whoever was guarding her. We didn’t do a good enough job in that respect.”
Stanford (111, 81) led 7069 after Lexie Hull hit one of two of freethrow tries. Formann, a freshman, then hit a shot from the top of the arc to put the Buffaloes ahead for good.
It was 7472 when Hull stole the ball from Hollingshed, but Anna Wilson missed a shot with five seconds left. Tuitele made one of two foul shots, setting up
the final seconds.
Hull finished with 19 points, Haley Jones had 16 points and seven rebounds, and Cameron Brink scored 13 for the Cardinal.
After Sherrod missed two freethrow attempts with 57 seconds left in regulation with the score tied, her steal and layup with 23 seconds left tied it 6767 and sent the game to overtime.
Dublin High alum Lesila Finau’s driving layup with 3:39 left in the third quarter gave Colorado a 4645 lead, its first of the game.
Hull’s 3pointer gave Stanford a 5351 lead going into the fourth quarter, but the Buffaloes wouldn’t go away. Hollingshed scored seven straight points to put Colorado ahead 6157 with 6:33 left. The Cardinal scored six straight points and Hollingshed tied it with a turnaround baseline jumper heading into the final four minutes of regulation.
