Gaels latest victim of No. 1 Zags

Judah Brown scored 16 points and Logan Johnson had 13 for visiting St. Mary’s, but the Gaels fell 8765 to topranked Gonzaga, which extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 25 games over the past two seasons.

Matthias Tass added 12 points and Mitchell Saxon 10 for the Gaels (117, 25 WCC)

Corey Kispert scored 20 points and Joel Ayayi added 16 for Gonzaga, which has won 18 in a row by double digits.

Gonzaga (210, 120) has been ranked No. 1 all season. Coach Mark Few wanted to put that in some perspectiv­e.

“This isn’t the most physically imposing squad we’ve marched out there,” Few said, noting the 2017 team that reached the NCAA championsh­ip game was bigger and the 2019 team may have had more gifted athletes.

“This is a team. They move it and share it. Our offensive numbers are reflecting that,” Few said. “It’s something to behold if you ask me.”

Washington State 82, Cal 51: The visiting Bears (8-16, 3-14 Pac-12), who trailed by 22 at halftime, got 16 points from Matt Bradley. Noah Williams led the Cougars (13-10, 6-10) with 32 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Stanford 79, Washington 61: Oscar da Silva had 18 points and six rebounds and Jaiden Delaire added 15 points for Stanford (14-8, 10-6 Pac-12) at Washington (4-17, 3-13). Loyola Marymount 68, USF 63: Mattias Markusson had 11 points and 15 rebounds and the Lions (11-6, 6-3 WCC) scored the last seven points (all from the foul line in the last 66 seconds) to beat the host Dons (10-11, 4-7).

San Diego 71, Santa Clara 60: Marin Catholic-Kentfield alum Joey Calcaterra scored 23 for San Diego (3-7, 2-4). Josip Vrankic had 25 points and 15 rebounds for the Broncos (9-6, 3-4 WCC) at home.

#3 Michigan 71, Rutgers 64: Franz Wagner scored 20 points and Mike Smith added 12 to lift Michigan (15-1, 10-1 Big Ten) past visiting Rutgers (12-8, 8-8), which has lost all 14 meetings in the series.

#4 Ohio State 92, Penn State 82: E.J. Liddell scored 17 of his 23 points in the first half and visiting Ohio State (18-4, 12-4 Big Ten) outlasted Penn State (7-11, 4-10).

Wichita State 68, #6 Houston 63: Tyson Etienne and Alterique Gilbert each scored 16 and Dexter Dennis had 12 points and a crucial steal in the final seconds, leading Wichita State (13-4, 9-2 American Athletic) past visiting Houston (17-3, 11-3) and into first place in the league.

#11 Iowa 77, #21 Wisconsin 62: Luka Garza scored 30 points, Joe Wieskamp had 17 and Iowa (16-6, 10-5 Big Ten) pulled away to win at Wisconsin (15-8, 9-7).

#25 San Diego State 67, Fresno State 53: Matt Mitchell scored 19 and Trey Pulliam added 18 for San Diego State (16-4, 10-3 Mountain West), which used a 19-0 run to take control in the first half at Fresno State (9-8, 6-8).

Oregon 60, Colorado 56: Chris Duarte had 18 points and seven rebounds for Oregon (13-4, 8-3). D’Shawn Schwartz scored 16 for Colorado (16-7, 10-6).

UCLA 74, Arizona 60: Jaime Jaquez Jr. scored 25 and UCLA (15-5, 11-3 Pac-12) overwhelme­d visiting Arizona (14-8, 8-8) to start the second half.

Oregon State 74, Utah 65: Ethan Thompson had 25 points, eight assists and five rebounds and Oregon State (11-10, 7-8 Pac-12) won its fifth straight at home, beating Utah (9-9, 6-8).

WOMEN

#21 Tennessee 75, #2 South Carolina 67: Rennia Davis scored all of her 24 points in the second half for the victorious Lady Vols (13-5, 7-3 SEC) at home against the Gamecocks (17-3, 12-1).

#3 Louisville 82, Pitt 58: Dana Evans matched her career high with 29 points and extended her ACC scoring lead

as Louisville (20-1, 13-1 ACC) won on the road.

#4 N.C. State 66, Wake Forest 47: Jakia Brown-Turner scored 21 points to lead the Wolfpack (14-2, 9-2 ACC) on the road.

St. Mary’s 69, Loyola Marymount 58: Taycee Wedin led the Gaels (5-16, 3-12 WCC) with 17 points and Jade Kirsome had 15 in Los Angeles.
