Fans give captains’ chairs to LeBron, KD

-

The voters have spoken: They wanted LeBron James of the reigning champion Lakers to be an AllStar captain, again.

So, he is. And Brooklyn’s Kevin Durant will be his opposition.

James and Durant were named Thursday as the leading fan votegetters in the Western and Eastern conferences for the AllStar Game, making them captains for the March 7 matchup in Atlanta. James will start for the 17th time, extending his record. Only Kareem AbdulJabbar (19) and Kobe Bryant (18) have more.

Golden State’s Stephen Curry will join Denver’s Nikola Jokic, the Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard, Dallas’ Luka Doncic and James in the West starting lineup. Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid will start alongside Durant in the East frontcourt, and Washington’s Bradley Beal and Brooklyn’s Kyrie Irving will be the East’s starting guards.

Doncic and Portland’s Damian Lillard were tied in the NBA’s weighted system for the second West guard spot; Doncic got the nod because he got more fan votes.

Reserves will be announced Tuesday, to be decided by voting by NBA head coaches. James — the leading overall votegetter this year, with more than 5.9 million votes from fans — and Durant will then pick their teams, with the rosters revealed March 4.

Nets 109, Lakers 98: James Harden had 23 points and 11 assists to lead Brooklyn on the road. LeBron James scored 32 to lead the Lakers and became the third player to score 35,000 points in a career (with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone).

Raptors 110, Bucks 96:

Norman Powell scored 29 points, Pascal Siakam had 27 and visiting Toronto handed Milwaukee its fifth consecutive loss.

Heat 118, Kings 110: Jimmy Butler had 13 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds for his third consecutive triple-double for visiting Miami.

Game postponed: Severe weather and power outages led the NBA to postpone Friday’s game between the Mavericks and Rockets in Houston. The Mavericks had their Wednesday home matchup against the Pistons called off and will go at least eight days without a game.
