Dons KO’d by Lions in Vegas

-

Eli Scott’s threepoint play with 22.1 seconds left gave Loyola Marymount the lead and the Lions added four free throws in the closing seconds as they beat USF 7066 in the second round of the WCC men’s tournament in Las Vegas on Friday night.

LMU (138), which beat the Dons twice during the regular season, trailed 6463 after USF’s Jamaree Bouyea scored on a drive with 32.1 seconds remaining. Scott then got the ball down low and powered his way to the goahead basket.

The Dons (1114) had a chance to tie or go ahead, but a turnover led to a foul and two free throws by the Lions’ Jalin Anderson. After Bouyea (12 points) scored on another drive, Joe Quintana hit two free throws with 6.4 seconds left for LMU.

Dzmitry Ryuny had 19 points to lead USF and Josh Kunen added 11 for the Dons.

Scott had 24 points and 14 rebounds for LMU, which will move on to a quarterfinal meeting with St. Mary’s.
