Panthers’ Ekblad hurt in win over Stars

-

Jonathan Huberdeau scored twice in the first period and the Panthers beat the Stars 41 in Dallas on Sunday in a game in which Florida defenseman Aaron Ekblad suffered a serious leg injury.

Ekblad was taken off the ice on a stretcher, an air cast applied to his left leg, after getting tangled with Dallas defenseman Esa Lindell in the corner.

Florida head coach Joel Quenneville said Ekblad is expected to miss “extensive time.”

“He’s hurt,” Huberdeau said. “You hear him scream. It must have hurt so bad. I didn’t really see it. I really didn’t want to see it.”

Ekblad has 11 goals this season, tied for the most among NHL defensemen.

Capitals 5, Rangers 4: Tom Wilson had two goals and Alex Ovechkin scored the 724th of his career as host Washington won for the 10th time in 11 games. Ovechkin is seven goals shy of tying Marcel Dionne for fifth on the NHL career list.

Red Wings 4, Blue Jackets 1: Michael Rasmussen broke a tie early in the third period with his first goal of the season and host Detroit beat Columbus for the second day in a row.

Ducks 3, Blues 2: Josh Manson scored at 1:47 of overtime to complete Anaheim’s comeback from a two-goal deficit. St. Louis is 0-5-2 in its past seven home games.

Devils 1, Bruins 0: Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 40 shots for his first shutout of the season and Kyle Palmieri scored in the first period as New Jersey won in Boston.

Predators 3, Blackhawks 2: Roman Josi scored the winner with 6:33 left in the third period as visiting Nashville won its fifth in a row.
