MESA, Ariz. — There are few scenarios worse for a bigleague manager than an everyday player getting hurt on the final day of spring training, so there were some nervous moments for the Giants on Monday when Mike Yastrzemski was hit on the left hand by a pitch from the A’s Sean Manaea while swinging at strike three in the third inning.

Late in the afternoon, the Giants announced that Xrays on Yastrzemski’s hand were negative, and he will be listed as daytoday. The team is not leaving for Seattle until Tuesday after a workout at Scottsdale Stadium.

“I didn’t actually didn’t see it, but I think from what I’ve heard, it sounded a lot worse than what it is,” Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford said after the Giants’ 72 win over the A’s. “It seems to be OK, he is moving his fingers around OK. I don’t want to speak too soon, but he seems like he’s all right.”

Yastrzemski, the Giants’ right fielder, went 12for40 .300 this spring and tied for the team lead with four homers.

⏩ Logan Webb didn’t get out of Cactus League play unscored upon — he gave up one whole run in five starts and 17 innings, finishing exhibition play with an 0.53 ERA, 22 strikeouts, seven hits allowed and two walks. Webb, who was expected to compete for the fifth spot in the rotation, earned the No. 3 job and will start Saturday’s game at Seattle. “I’m honored to make the team and pitch that game,” Webb said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m excited.”

⏩ Infielder Tommy La Stella, who left Sunday’s game after being hit on the knee by a pitch, pinch hit Monday and singled. With the Giants likely to go righthandedhitter heavy against lefty Marco Gonzales in Thursday’s opener and against lefty James Paxton in Game 2, La Stella might not get a start until the third game of the season, anyway.

⏩ Manager Gabe Kapler said that several players and staff members have had vaccines; he has had his first shot. With potential side effects, they might schedule shots around days off when possible. Kapler had no side effects from his first vaccine but he said some others in the organization have had mild side effects.

⏩ Joey Bart led the Giants with a .423 average (11for26) this spring. Donovan Solano hit .421 (16for38) to lead the bigleague bunch. Evan Longoria, and Austin Slater tied for the team lead in homers (four) and RBIs (10) (Yastrzemski had four home runs as well). Slater topped six players with an OPS over 1.000, with a 1.328 mark. The best ERA among the pitchers who will make the roster: Projected closer Jake McGee didn’t allow a run in seven appearances, he struck out eight and didn’t issue any walks. Opposing batters hit .050 against him and .059 against fellow lefty reliever Caleb Baragar.

⏩ The Giants finished the Cactus League with an 11125 record.
