Skye Bolt, an A’s outfield prospect for the past six years who has one of the alltime baseball names, was claimed by the Giants on Monday.

Bolt, 27, will report to the Giants’ alternate site in Sacramento.

“So excited,” Bolt said in a text to The Chronicle. “Thankful for the opportunities and hard work that Oakland gave me from the beginning. They gave me the chance to chase and fulfill my first goal of getting to the big leagues. And as for San Francisco, I couldn’t be more excited to join this club and help them win ballgames.”

The move added depth to the Giants’ outfield corps, which has its share of highlevel prospects, including Heliot Ramos and Hunter Bishop.

The Giants opened the season with five outfielders: Mike Yastrzemski, Alex Dickerson, Mauricio Dubón, Austin Slater and Darin Ruf.

Drafted in the fourth round in 2015, the Bolt has played just five bigleague games, going 1for10 in 2019.

Bolt, a switchhitter, hit .182 in eight spring training games and was designated for assignment before Thursday’s opener.

To create room on the Giants’ 40man roster, they designated Ashton Goudeau, who had been claimed from the Orioles in midMarch, for assignment.

Bolt had his secondbest minorleague season in 2019 in terms of OPS. He batted .269 with a .350 onbase percentage, .459 slugging percentage and 11 homers in 89 games in TripleA.

Yastrzemski scratched: Yastrzemski was pulled from the lineup before Monday’s game with left hand soreness. He’s still feeling the effects of getting hit by a Sean Manaea pitch in the final spring game.

Yastrzemski delivered a pinchhit solo homer off San Diego’s Craig Stammen in the seventh inning

Yastrzemski, who played all three games in Seattle and went 1for13 with six strikeouts, was replaced in the starting lineup by Slater. Dubón, originally slated to play shortstop, was moved to center field, and Brandon Crawford played short.

Asked after Saturday’s game if the hand was affecting him, Yastrzemski said, “No, not at all. There’s no excuse. I just stunk this weekend, this series. That’s it.”
