Ducks head to S.J. after falling to Avs

Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and an assist to extend his point streak to nine games and the Colorado Avalanche defeated the host Anaheim Ducks 41.

Gabriel Landeskog had a goal and two assists for the Avalanche, who have won seven of eight and went 611 against Anaheim this season.

“We gave them a few too many good scoring chances from the slot,” Ducks defenseman Kevin Shattenkir­k said of the Avalanche. “We played hard, it’s not for lack of trying.”

The Ducks have lost five of six as they prepare to face the Sharks in San Jose on Monday. Sabres 5, Flyers 3: Rasmus Asplund, Jeff Skinner and Casey Mittelstad­t scored in the final 3:03 as visiting Buffalo improved its NHL-worst record to 10-25-6.

Golden Knights 1, Coyotes 0: Tomas Nosek scored the game’s lone goal and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 14 shots to tie former Sharks goalie Ed Belfour for fourth in NHL history with 484 wins as host Vegas won.

Islanders 3, Rangers 2: Ryan Pulock scored 1:13 into overtime as New York improved to 18-2-2 at home.

Penguins 5, Devils 2: Colton Sceviour, placed on waivers earlier in the day, scored two goals as visiting Pittsburgh won its third in a row.

Capitals 8, Bruins 1: T.J. Oshie, Conor Sheary and Lars Eller each each scored two goals as Washington won in Boston.

Predators 3, Stars 2: Host Nashville’s Ryan Johansen scored on the first shot of the shootout, the only goal for either team in the one-on-one round.

Trades: The Sharks dealt forward Stefan Noesen, who has zero points in five games this season, to the Maple Leafs for a fourth-round draft pick . ... The Blue Jackets traded forward Nick Foligno, their team captain, to Toronto for a 2021 first-round pick and 2022 fourth-rounder . ... The Red Wings traded defenseman Jon Merrill to the Canadiens for a fourth-round pick . ... The Devils acquired defenseman Jonas Siegenthal­er from the Capitals for a third-round pick.

Briefly: Capitals goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who had open-heart surgery in early January, is abandoning his attempt to play this season after a checkup last week showed some inflammati­on around his heart. Lundqvist, 39, tweeted Sunday that his condition will require a few more months of rest and recovery. Lundqvist won 459 games — ranking him sixth in NHL history — in 15 seasons with the Rangers before signing with Washington in October . ... Predators forward Michael McCarron received a two-game suspension for elbowing Lightning forward Yanni Gourde in the head Saturday.
